Cremation Urns

Cremation Urns

Michellea, a dear friend of ours, reached out to us in the fall of 2020 after suddenly losing her husband Ken.  Looking over a few other options, she decided that none of the cremation urns available suited him.  Knowing that we already made urns for pets, she approached us to make a larger urn for him and a complementary smaller one for spreading his ashes in travels.

As Ken was an avid and skilled woodworker, she thought that making this out of wood, would be the most fitting route, so she asked us to create clean and simple urns using his favourite wood, Oak. Additionally, if we could add a personal engraving and somehow incorporate his favourite colour,  purple. So, we set to task.

Starting with a raw board of Oak, we surface and pieced together two simple urns with a clean top profile that would allow us to add both engraving and a purple epoxy inlay. A light pecan stain brought out the beautiful grain from the board, and we completed the project with a simple shellac finish.

“The most wasted day of all has always been the one withouth laughter.  Please remember me with love, a smile, some thoughtfulness and laughter.”
